They also reduced the clutch count from 3 to 2, and the infotainment was much less costly on the GEN 2’s. There may have been some truth that the 2011-15 models were too expensive to manufacture – but that is why the cost reduced 2016-19 models came out… As an example – the drive train motors of the GEN 2’s fit in the same space as just the large motor of the GEN 1.
